Opis
Streszczenie:Zirconium, usually yttria-stabilized (Y-TZP), is one of the most researched materials in restorative dentistry, thanks to its high strength, aesthetics, and biocompatibility. Despite its advantages, its inert chemical surface makes adhesion with resin cements difficult; therefore, material-specific conditioners, such as primers, are used to improve the bond. Based on this, this study was conducted to determine the efficacy of primers in the surface treatment of zirconium prosthetic crowns. This research focused on dental biomaterials, through a qualitative analytical literature review, analyzing 20 scientific articles, including in vitro studies, clinical trials, and controlled reviews. The information search was conducted in specialized databases such as PubMed, Science Direct, Cochrane, and Scopus, in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, following strict inclusion and exclusion criteria, and using key terms and Boolean operators. The results highlight the importance of primers in zirconium conditioning, as they significantly improve crown stability and prognosis through the formation of strong chemical bonds (P–O–Zr). Furthermore, their use protocol includes clinical steps such as initial cleaning, sandblasting with aluminum oxide particles, and primer application; this procedure guarantees strong chemical bonding and greater retention. In conclusion, primers not only improve the adhesion between resin cement and zirconium but also ensure predictable and long-lasting cementation
