| Gaia: | At the global level, gender wage gaps are very latent, where women continue to be the most affected because they receive lower wages than men and even with the same job characteristics; Therefore, international programs such as the United Nations Organization (UN) work to eliminate these disparities, obtaining an approximate calculation of 135.5 years for their total eradication (World Economic Forum, 2021). In this context, the objective of the research focused on determining the effect of the academic level on the wage gaps by gender in the 24 provinces of Ecuador and the undelimited areas during 2010-2020. The data was collected from the National Employment, Unemployment and Underemployment Survey (ENEMDU) of the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses [INEC] (2021). The Oaxaca-Blinder method (1973) and Propensity Score Matching (PSM) were used as an econometric process, using panel data. The results obtained indicate that there is a direct relationship between income and academic level; and, an indirect relationship between wages and experience. On the other hand, through the salary breakdown, it was possible to verify the existence of salary discrimination against the female gender. Likewise, the matching by score indicated that the academic level does have a contractionary effect on the salary gaps. With the results obtained, it is recommended that the State should encourage, through public policies, a greater participation of women in administrative positions, through operating regulations, strategic agreements and public-private cooperation, being a contributor to the reduction of gender inequality. |
