| Shrnutí: | The present research about the family and its impact on year 8 students’ academic achievement in the evening section was carried out at Miguel Riofrio Basic School in Loja, with the purpose of encouraging family support in student’s development process through alternatives that allow parents to be sensitized in a way that they become aware and keep in mind that the accompaniment in the educational process of their children is not about attending academic or cultural meetings, or about being aware of their grades, or whether or not they meet their academic responsibilities. Because comprehensive development can exist when it takes into consideration functions that must be fulfilled by the family unit, such as: education in values, affection, and economic support, cover expenses of health, education, housing, clothing and food, in order that parents understand that all these factors are linked to the academic performance of their children, without neglecting the relationship that must exist with teachers. By meeting all these functions, a comprehensive support would be fulfilled, which would result in a better academic development and therefore a good academic performance. The specific objectives that were projected were able to give a theoretical support through argumentation of the categories of analysis, likewise, the causes of family support were identified in students’ academic development, giving way to design a social proposal from a Social Work perspective, called: Family support in educational process is the key to student success, in order to encourage participatory co-responsibility in families, teachers and students for a better academic development. 6 The method of rising from the abstract to the concrete was used in the research which consists of an external level with its sensitive and information phases. Conceptual level and its phases of participant research and determination. Rational logic level with its development phases of action and execution models. Techniques and instruments are used, like; observation, survey, unstructured interviews, field diary and questionnaires that allowed to gather information of the subject matter, to then continue processing information through tabulation and data analysis. The main findings of the research revealed that the lack of family support in the development process of the students is due to the fact that they are part of a single-parent family, with only one parent as head household, reason why most of their time is spent working, doing housework and other activities, causing fatigue and stress, that doesn’t allow them to dedicate time to take care of their children and give them academic support, despite covering the expenses demanded by the education of their children, they stop fulfilling important responsibilities such as; guiding them in their academic tasks, approaching the school to ask about their homework, grades, attendance and behavior, which causes students to be careless in their studies, most of their time is spent playing, they do not present homework on time, which is why they have a low academic achievement. |
