| Summary: | The National University of Loja, is an institution of Higher Education in Ecuador, which regularly receives visits from students, professionals and researchers; in light of this, there is a vital need for a mechanism which will provide timely and accurate information; and will allow visitors to identify campus facilities, which would help greatly when required to reach a block or unit on the university campus. This paper aims at the development of a mobile application which is compatible with Android operating systems. Through this application, the user will be able to use their mobile phone to see the location of the different blocks and units that make up the National University of Loja´s campus on a map or browser. The application will also allow the user to trace the route and calculate the distance from their position to a point of interest; in addition it will show useful information relating to each point of interest. The application will be able to perform a custom search for the different units of the university´s campus and share their location via Facebook or Twitter. During the research process, a series of successive and orderly steps were performed in order to establish the theme, set the objectives, establish the structure and provide state of the art solutions to the current core problems and any problems that could arise. During the application´s development process, the incremental software´s life cycle was taken into consideration, this allowed the delivery of functional progress in each repetition to facilitate the correction of errors; the RAD methodology was used and for the documentation some of the artifacts provided by the Iconix methodology and the SWEBOK guide (2004 version) were also used. The application was coded using the Java programming language, using the Android SDK, deploying geolocation and augmented reality were made with the use of the Google Map´s APIs and Wikitude SDK, in that order. In terms of user interaction with social networks, external APIs for Facebook and Twitter were used; also a Web administrator which allowed data management of the application and a server responsible for providing responses to the different requests from the mobile application were implemented. |
