| Тойм: | The present study was conducted in order to determine if the threat of preterm birth is related to urinary tract infection, in addition, it was determined the gestational age in which the threat of preterm birth occurred; the age of the mother where the threat of preterm birth most often occurs; the etiologic agent was identified, as well as the place of the affection, and the clinical picture of the pregnant women attended in the external cosultation of the gynecology-obstetrics department of the Universitary Hospital of Motupe, during the May-November period of 2015. The study was of retrospective and descriptive type, having a universe of 17 pregnant women with preterm birth threat; and a sample of 15 pregnant women who had a proven urinary tract infection with EMO (Elemental y microscópico de orina) tests and urine culture tests. A data collection sheet designed by the autor was used; with the following results: 17 of the pregnant women had symptomatology of preterm birth, of which 14.8% was caused by urinary tract infections and 88.2% of them were laboratory-proven. The most frequent gestational age is between 33-36.6 weeks of gestation with 93.3%, and the age of the mother is between 15 and 25 years with 66.7%. In addition, of the patients with preterm labor threat that had urinary tract infection, the causative agent found in most cases was E. coli with 80%. Of the pregnant women with preterm birth, 93.3% had an asymptomatic clinical picture for urinary tract infection, with 86.7% affecting the lower urinary tract. In conclusion, the threat of preterm delivery is related to urinary tract infection being more frequent in the third trimester of pregnancy, affecting mainly mothers between 15-25 years of age; the urinary tract that is most affected is the lower one, with an asymptomatic clinical picture and the most frequent etiologic agent is E.
