Yhteenveto:Adequate nutrition in school children is the essential factor for obtaining an appropriate Body Mass Index (BMI), which leads to the achievement of good academic performance. This study aimed to know the nutritional level, its repercussion in the BMI and the influence on the academic performance of the students of basic education of the Educational Unit 18 of November of the city of Loja, being the general objective to determine the influence of the nutritional status about the school performance of the children of basic education of the Educational Unit 18 of November of the city of Loja and the specific objectives, to value the nutritional status of the children and to quantify the school performance of the students of the mentioned educational unit. The type of study was Descriptive and Transversal with a sample of 140 students. The method was quantitative and the procedures were as follows: As a tool to obtain primary information, a survey was applied and to determine the BMI, the measurement of height and weight. The results show that 64% of the students are in normal nutritional status, 19% with low weight, 12% with overweight and 5% with obesity. The female group presented better levels of BMI, thus, in normal nutritional level 72% women and 55% men, underweight 14% women and 24% men, overweight 8% women and 15% men, and in obesity 6% both men and women. In the academic performance 58% of the students obtained grades between 10-9, equivalent to Dominate the Required Apprenticeships (DAR) and 42% between 8-7, similar to Achieve the Required Apprenticeships (AAR); there were no students with grades equal to or less than 6.
