description The hotel business is very important and sacrificed, requiring much effort and creativity; it has a close relationship with the tourism sector, generating resources and sources of direct and indirect employment, requiring constant changes and innovations that allow for better service and care users. For these reasons, this project aims to conduct a study of competitiveness in the hotel sector in the city of Loja, in order to improve performance, and user attention. To carry out this investigation, we took into consideration some aspects such as literature review, which refers to the guiding framework and conceptual study about. The methodology used consists of methods and research techniques used for the development of this research work, with its corresponding sample size. Results In a situation assessment is performed in the hotel industry in the city of Loja, According to the Ministry of Tourism and the Tourism Department of the City Municipality of Loja, the cadastre of the hotel sector in the city of Loja, 2011, in the containing the new classification consisting of Hotels, Hostels, Hostels Residency Residency Hotels, Inns and Guesthouses, likewise applied surveys managers and administrators of the 56 existing hotels in the city of Loja, also applied polls tourists who visited the city of Loja, in the period January-June 2011, then performed an analysis of factors affecting the hotel industry in which we analyze some factors that affect the competitiveness of hotels, also made a analysis of the forces of Porter. With this background we proceed to develop a SWOT analysis and study of the internal and external factors to determine their real strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, and finally the matrix structure of high impact and weight. Within the Discussion addresses a competitiveness analysis hotel in the city of Loja on the basis of services rendered to the client; disclosed policies that should have the hotels according to tourism ministry to have a category in the hotel sector, proposes strategies to implement these policies and marches to improve the competitiveness of hotels in the city of Loja, in the proposal presented targets appearing 5 strategic objectives: Strategic Objective No. 1 Develop motivation and incentive plans to ensure that the staff of the company more efficient in their work to avoid loss of customers. Strategic Objective No. 2 Competitive pricing of housing to increase the demand for hotel services in low season. Strategic Objective No. 3 Develop training plans for staff working in the hotel business in the city of Loja, in order to improve care and customer service. Strategic Objective No. 4 Develop a plan that allows corporate advertising to publicize the benefits and services offered by institutions of Loja hotel. Strategic Objective No. 5 Design a maintenance plan of the hotel facilities. Finally, we present the conclusions and recommendations that have been identified within this research work.

Finally, we present the conclusions and recommendations that have been identified within this research work.La actividad hotelera es muy importante y sacrificada, requiriendo de mucho esfuerzo y creatividad, esta tiene una íntima relación con el sector turístico, generando recursos y fuentes de empleo tanto directas como indirectas, demandando constantes cambios e innovaciones que permitan un mejor servicio y atención de los usuarios. Por estas razones el presente proyecto tiene como finalidad realizar un estudio de competitividad en el sector Hotelero de la ciudad de Loja, con el propósito de mejorar el funcionamiento, y atención de los usuarios. Para la realización de la presente investigación, se tomó en consideración algunos aspectos tales como: la revisión de literatura, en la que hace referencia al Marco Referencial y conceptual en torno al estudio realizado. En la metodología utilizada constan los métodos y técnicas de investigación empleadas para el desarrollo del presente trabajo investigativo, con su correspondiente tamaño de la muestra. En los Resultados se realiza un diagnóstico situacional del sector hotelero en la ciudad de Loja, según información del Ministerio de Turismo y el Departamento de Turismo del Municipio de la Ciudad de Loja, del catastro del sector hotelero en la ciudad de Loja del año 2011, en el que contiene la nueva clasificación que consta de Hoteles, Hostales, Hostales de Residencia, Hoteles de Residencia, Hosterías, y Pensiones; así mismo se aplicó encuestas a los Gerentes y Administradores de los 56 hoteles existentes en la ciudad de Loja, también se aplicó encuestas a los turistas que visitaron la ciudad de Loja, en el periodo enero junio del año 2011; luego se realizo un análisis de los factores que inciden en el sector hotelero en el cual se analiza algunos factores que inciden en la competitividad hotelera. También con estos antecedentes se procede a desarrollar un análisis y estudio FODA, de los factores internos y externos para poder determinar sus reales fortalezas, debilidades, oportunidades y amenazas, para finalmente estructurar las matriz de alto impacto y ponderación. Dentro de la Discusión se aborda el análisis de la competitividad hotelera en la ciudad de Loja en base a los servicios que prestan al cliente; se dan a conocer políticas que deben tener los hoteles según el ministerio de turismo para tener una categoría en este sector hotelero; se proponen estrategias para poner en marchas estas políticas y para mejorar la competitividad hotelera en la ciudad de Loja; en la propuesta de los objetivos se presentan 5 objetivos estratégicos: Objetivo Estratégico Nº 1 Elaborar planes de motivación e incentivos a fin de garantizar que los usuarios de la empresa hotelera se sientan satisfechos con el servicio brindado. Objetivo Estratégico Nº 2 Establecer precios competitivos de hospedaje que incrementen la demanda de este servicio hotelero en temporadas bajas. Objetivo Estratégico Nº 3 Elaborar planes de capacitación para el personal que trabaja en las empresas hoteleras en la ciudad de Loja, a fin de mejorar la atención y servicio a los clientes. Objetivo Estratégico Nº 4 Elaborar un plan publicitario corporativo que permita dar a conocer las bondades y servicios que ofrecen las instituciones hoteleras de Loja. Objetivo Estratégico Nº5 Diseñar un plan de mantenimiento de las instalaciones hoteleras.
