Tóm tắt: | Diabetes mellitus (DM) is described as one of the most important metabolic disorders in the world population, characterized by chronic hyperglycemia with disturbances in the carbohydrates, lipids and protein metabolism, which results from defects in secretion and / or insulin action. It was proposed to determine the risk of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in teachers of Medicine career at the National University of Loja by Findrisk Test, one of the current screening methods, most widely used in the world, besides this study analyze risk according gender and age group, including determining risk factors mainly involved and their relationship with age and gender of the study population. This is a descriptive and cross-sectional study used a sample of 70 non-diabetics. It was determined that the male presents greater risk of Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 because they had a 7.14% (n = 5) of high risk, and 12.86% (n = 9) moderate risk, unlike the female gender that did not have high risk, and has a higher percentage of slight risk with 21.43% (n = 15), the 55-64 age group has the highest risk because it has a high risk in a 4.28% (n = 3), which explains the influence of this factor in the development of Diabetes Mellitus type 2. Besides the waist circumference altered with 65.71% (n = 46), followed by genetic background found with 64.29% (n = 45) of teachers, and BMI> 25 with 55.71% (n = 39) are the three most common risk factors in the study population, in both genders and especially in older ages. Therefore was identified the great influence of age, gender, genetic factors, BMI and high waist perimeter as dominant and determinant in high risk of the study population..
