Shrnutí:Depression and anxiety are complex emotional disorders, even though they are different, they can carry on thinking and behavioural problems. They are illnesses, which can share a similar background and we can even confused them. Although, those illnesses are recognized such as clinic entities in teenagers, they can present a failure diagnostic owing to parents and health professionals can underestimate the clear symptoms of depression and anxiety. This investigation determined the level of anxiety and depression in junior and senior teenagers of Adolfo Valarezo High School, for which a descriptive, relational and cross-sectional quantitative study was developed. Anxiety and Depression Hamilton Test was applied in 179 high school students; it determined that: 29,1% presented minor depression and 5,6% major depression, 40,8% presented minor anxiety and 34,1% moderate anxiety. The prevalence of depression and anxiety was 53,6% and 74,9%, respectively, the relationship between depression and anxiety was statistically significant (p <0,05). To conclude, the prevalence of depression and anxiety was high and there is a relation between depression and anxiety. Key words: depression, anxiety, teenagers
