सारांश:Nutritional status arises from the balance between the intake and use of nutrients. Alterations in this balance can predispose the development of pathologies such as: overweight, obesity, malnutrition. These conditions can lead to impaired growth and delayed psychomotor development during early childhood. Besides; Talking about psychomotor development corresponds to defining the acquisition and development of functional abilities that represent the maturation of the central nervous system, valuing different areas: language, motor, manipulative, social, psychic functions. In view of the relevance of this topic, a descriptive, relational study was carried out to determine the nutritional status and psychomotor development in 107 preschoolers from the Chile neighborhood, in the Calvas canton, Loja province. We used the WHO weight/height growth chart and the Denver II neurodevelopmental assessment test for evaluation. We found that 84 children, 78.5% of the sample, showed a normal nutritional status. Of these, 58.9% (n=63) exhibited normal development, while 16.8% (n=18) and 2.8% (n=3) doubtful and abnormal, respectively. We observed risk of overweight in 10.3% (n=11) of the sample, of which 6.5% (n=7) showed normal development, 2.8% (n=3) doubtful development and 0.9% (n=1) an abnormal development. The Chi square test with a value of 4.487 (3.48) and 1 degree of freedom, allowed us to conclude the existing relationship between nutritional status and psychomotor development, since neurodevelopmental deterioration is present when the nutritional status is pathological
