| Summary: | Public spending on education is an essential component for reducing income inequality in Latin America, which is why this research has focused on studying the incidence of education spending on income inequality in Latin America, which is measured by the Gini coefficient, in the period from 1999 to 2019, using unemployment and urbanization as control variables, taking as a database the World Bank (2020), for the methodology a model with panel data is used and cointegration techniques. The results indicate that spending on education has a negative relationship with income inequality, which is cointegrated in the long term, but in the short term the elasticity with respect to the explanatory variable is not significant. There is also evidence of a bidirectional causality of Granger between education spending and income inequality. Finally, it is concluded that spending on education in Latin America, if it reduces income inequality, is also suggested to generate inclusive education policies, in a way that enables the individual to generate knowledge and skills that will enable him or her to generate skilled human capital and a multi-sectoral policy approach that articulates the training part and the labour market. |
