Izvleček:Obesity considered a global pandemic of the 21st century, is a chronic disease that decreases the quality of life of individuals who suffer from it. The overweight and obese adolescent is at greater risk of presenting complications in adulthood, the presence of familiar factors such as family functionality are related to the presence of this pathology in adolescents. The objective of the present investigation was to determine the relationship between family functionality and the presence of overweight and obesity in high school adolescents in zone 7. A descriptive, analytical, cross-sectional study was conducted. Sampling was probabilistic of simple random type through the computer system Microsoft Excel to select the Colleges of each Province; And by clusters for first, second and third year high school students aged between 15 and 19, of both sexes, with a total of 956 participants, who were given an anonymous survey to determine sociodemographic characteristics, family typology, The Family Functionality Test (FFSIL) and anthropometric measurements; Prior consent and informed consent. Applying the statistical test of chi2 (p <0.05). It was found that there is no relation between family functionality and overweight and obesity, but when considering the sex variable it is determined that male adolescents from dysfunctional families present a risk of being 3.04 times more likely to present obesity than women with the same characteristics.
