Summary:The current thesis refers to "FACEBOOK SOCIAL NETWORK AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN COLLEGE STUDENTS BACHELOR ZAPOTILLO CITY AND CANTON ZAPOTILLO, LOJA PROVINCE, LECTIVO PERIOD 2014 -. 2015. ALTERNATIVE GUIDELINES" ¿How does the Social Network Facebook has an impact on the low academic performance of students of the College "Zapotillo" of the city and canton Zapotillo, province of Loja, during the school year 2014-2015? The overall objective was: to determinate the impact that causes the use of the social network Facebook in the academic performance of the students of the High – school “Zapotillo”. The used methods for the elaboration of the current researching work were: scientific, inductive, deductive, analytic and synthetic. Statistical model: the used techniques were two surveys, one aimed at teachers and the other one aimed at the students to identify the impact that has Facebook social network on the academic performance of the “Zapotillo” high-school students. The application of the survey to the teachers concludes that: most of the teachers agree on their answers that, the frequent use of the Facebook Social Network is noxious and produces a negative effect decreasing the academic performance of the students. Also teachers argue and agree to stablish control standards to improve the use of this important social network as a media, and also to awareness in students in order them to choose to cultivate a proper habit for its correct use, after performing their academic tasks. The application of the survey to the students concludes that: most of the students accept that they often use Facebook, especially in the educative institution and while they are having classes, on the other hand they are also aware that the frequent use of it produces negative effects like their studies neglect mainly and therefore this affects in a notorious way their academic performance. Finally there is a proposal for alternative guidelines for consideration of the authorities and teachers to implement within the educational institution to improve the correct use of the Facebook Social Network with the aim of raising awareness among the students of the bachelor's level, train teachers and establish commitments with the goal of eradicating this educational problem in the College Zapotillo.
