Adherencia terapéutica y disfunción eréctil en pacientes diabéticos tipo 2 atendidos en el servicio de endocrinología del Hospital Isidro Ayora de Loja

Therapeutic adherence in type 2 diabetics are modifications in conjunction with the medical recommendations adopted to improve their lifestyle, thus avoiding complications such as erectile dysfunction (ED), inability to obtain or maintain a sufficient penile erection for satisfactory sexual activity. This research aimed to identify therapeutic adherence, categorize the degree of erectile dysfunction, and establish the relationship between therapeutic adherence and degree of erectile dysfunction. A quantitative cross-sectional cohort approach was applied, involving 53 type 2 diabetic patients treated in the endocrinology service of the Isidro Ayora Hospital in Loja; in whom the AT-DM2 questionnaire and the IIEF 5 test were used, obtaining that 69.8% presented adherence to treatment, 24.5% were at risk of non-adherence and 5.7% were non-adherence. Regarding the degree of erectile dysfunction, it was categorized that all patients exhibited erectile dysfunction. Severe ED predominated among older adults at 11.3%, mild to moderate ED in mature adults at 22.6%, and mild ED in young adults at 5.7%. Estimating the relationship between therapeutic adherence and the degree of erectile dysfunction, it was evident that 69.8% adhered to the treatment, 24.5% were at risk of non-adherence, and 5.7% were non-adherent. Establishing that the relationship between therapeutic adherence and erectile dysfunction is statistically significant with a value of (p=0.02). It was concluded that the majority of patients adhering to the treatment presented with mild to moderate ED, while those not adhering to the treatment exhibited moderate to severe ED. This demonstrates the importance of treatment adherence in the severity of ED in patients with type 2 diabetes
