Shrnutí:In the world, one in seven young people between the ages of 10 and 19 suffers from a mental disorder (WHO, 2020). Some of the main causes are related to the pressure of the environment, and one of the aspects that can be affected is academic performance. This research aims to evidence the relationship between anxiety and academic performance in 155 students in the 2nd and 3rd year of high school in the Eloy Alfaro high school in Cariamanga. Anxiety was determined using the Zung scale under summary measures and frequencies. It was evidenced that the prevalence of minimal moderate anxiety was 78%, marked to severe anxiety 72%, and maximum anxiety was 0.6%. Regarding academic performance, high performance was evidenced (outstanding 53% cumulative average for 2nd year of high school and 70% for 3rd year of high school) and at the same educational levels of 28% (very good and good). The bilateral significance between anxiety and academic performance is 0.21, with a confidence level of 95%, so the null hypothesis is not rejected since the R-value is 0.251 and the two-tailed P-value is 0.258. The association between the two variables would not be considered statistically significant, that is, the hypothesis "academic performance responds to the level of pressure received" is fulfilled. The arithmetic mean for the rating dimensions was outstanding in school performance, and for anxiety, it is severe and minimal moderate
