Crynodeb:ABSTRACT Epilepsy is a disease of organic cause that today has increased at an alarming rate on both a global and national scale, having multiple impacts which affect the lifestyle in both the psychological and social aspects of those suffering from this disease. The objectives of this study are: To identify epileptic patients in their reproductive years by age and sex who attend the outpatient unit of the Isidro Ayora de Loja General Hospital; to determine the psychosocial state of epileptic patients attending the outpatient unit of the Isidro Ayora de Loja General Hospital classifying them according to their level of psychosocial adaptation; and to develop a matrix of strategies for improving the quality of life of epileptic patients focused on the psychosocial aspect. The methodology used was by means of the Washington test (WPSI), which contains 8 scales that assess the psychosocial component of epileptic patients by asking 132 questions with short answers (yes or no), classifying them into 4 levels of adaptation. The results regarding the sex of the total of 65 patients found a prevalence in women with a frequency of 38 patients compared to male with a frequency of 27 patients. In reference to age, 15-24 years showed superiority with a frequency of 28 patients. With regard to psychosocial state, it was found that the overall psychosocial functioning was affected in 4 of the 7 scales (family history, emotional adaptation, interpersonal adaptation and adaptation toward the attacks) which evaluate this component, placing it in psychosocial adaptation level 3 which indicates problems of clear impact in the psychosocial field. That is why it is essential to improve the psychosocial adaptation of people with epilepsy through intervention strategies for which a matrix for the psychosocial intervention of such patients is created, this, in turn, will contribute to a better approach to the disease.
