Descripció
Sumari:This study aimed to identify the prevalence of mandibular asymmetries in panoramic radiographs at private orthodontic centers in the city of Loja by Habets analysis. An observational, retrospective and descriptive methodology was used to analyze panoramic radiographs of patients older than 15 years who presented complete final dentition and were treated during the last 6 years. The sample consisted of 50 radiographs that were 20 belonging to men and 30 belonging to women, with an average age of 24.22 years. In the statistical analysis, a chi-square test was used to evaluate the association of the asymmetries found in each of the variables dependent on the age and sex of the patient, for this, the Mann-Whitney test was used for the distribution of the variables with a 95% confidence interval (p = <0.05). It was concluded that through the application of the Habets asymmetry index with a 3% cut there was a prevalence of condylar asymmetry to a greater extent, followed by branch asymmetry and finally the least prevalent was the asymmetry of condyle plus branch. These values did not represent significance concerning the patient age and sex. KEYWORDS: Vertical mandibular asymmetry / Condylar / Branch / Panoramic radiography / Habets analysis.
