Beskrivelse
Summary:Preterm labor is defined as the birth that occurs before completing 37 weeks of gestation, from the first day of the last menstrual period, given by different factors, both maternal and fetal, among which are genitourinary infections, age maternal, multiparity, metrorrhagia in the second and third trimester, congenital anomalies, intrauterine growth retardation, among others. Considering prematurity a risk condition for the newborn, as well as a public health problem, this descriptive study was carried out, with a quantitative approach, aimed at identifying risk factors and morbidity and mortality in premature neonates at the Isidro Ayora Hospital in the city de Loja during the year 2019. For this, 74 medical records of premature neonates treated in the neonatology service were reviewed, finding that the main risk factors associated with preterm delivery of maternal origin were genitourinary infections in 51.35%, anemia 21.62%, and arterial hypertension 16.22%. Of the fetal factors, weight less than 1000 and 2999 grams stood out in 78.38% of premature babies. On the other hand, the mortality of premature newborns was 1.35%, likewise it was possible to show that the main morbidities associated with prematurity were: 45.95%, bacterial pneumonia and respiratory distress of the newborn in 22.97%, finally followed by neonatal jaundice with 17.56%. It is concluded that maternal and fetal factors individually do not directly influence preterm delivery, but together they interact and are determinants for it
