| Shrnutí: | The successional dynamics of plant species present in the understory of Pinus sp. and Eucalyptus globulus Labill of the "Francisco Vivar Castro" University Park of the city of Loja, province of Loja, evaluated the floristic composition, structural parameters, floristic diversity and natural regeneration in both plantations, and from this analysis propose alternatives for the management of ecologically important species; the works were carried out from November 2017 to July 2018. In each plantation under study, 10 plots of 10m x 10m (100 m2) were installed for the inventory of trees, within which subplots of 5m x 5m (25 m2) were nested for shrubs, and subplots of 1m x 1m (1 m2) were installed) for herbs. To evaluate natural regeneration, only arboreal species were taken into account and 4 categories were considered, these are: seedling, saplings, low latitude and high latitude. The species not identified in the field were transferred to the Herbarium Reinaldo Espinoza of the National University of Loja for their respective identification. Under the plantation of Pinus sp. 74 species included in 68 genera and 43 families were registered; and, under the plantation of Eucalyptus globulus Labill, 75 species were recorded, within 64 genera and 42 families. The floristic diversity according to the Shannon index under the plantation of Pinus sp. it is medium (3.25); and, for the plantation of Eucalyptus globulus Labill it is high (3,64). In both plantations analyzed and according to the similarity index of Sorensen (beta) the diversity in the two study areas (pine and eucalyptus) are fairly similar to each other, with a value of 60.4% or 0.60. The species with higher IVI under the plantation of Pinus sp. are: Rhamnus granulosa, Piper bogotense, Peperomia galioides; and, under the plantation of Eucalyptus globulus Labill are: Clusia latipes, Viburnum triphyllum and Axonopus compressus. The representative tree species that are regenerated are: Rhamnus granulosa and Oreopanax rosei under the plantation of Pinus sp .; and, Rhamnus granulosa, Oreopanax rosei and Clusia latipes under the plantation of Eucalyptus globulus Labill. Finally taking into account a species classification matrix and the IVI there are 15 ecologically important species in both plantations, these are: Rhamnus granulosa, Oreopanax rosei, Peperomia galioides, Clethra fimbriata, Cestrum tomentosum, Gomphichis caucana, Piper bogotense, Roupala monosperma, Rubus robustus, Viburnum triphyllum , Clusia latipes, Alnus acuminata, Myrsine andina, Siparuna muricata y Colignonia scandens.
