| Izvleček: | The present research project aimed to design a machine to chop grass and sugar cane for the Ponderosa farm located in Mutinza neighborhood of Yantzaza canton, for which a specific bibliographic consultation was made on the properties of sugar cane, the chopping process and the energy required to cut the cane. As well as the types of forage chopping machines and the systems that comprise them. The design of the different systems and components of the machine was based on mechanical design theory, strength of materials and fluid mechanics. The selection of the type of machine was made through the evaluation of weighted criteria that allowed the criteria that made it possible to define the systems. The design request, the condition of greatest stress in the components, is established for the case when the sugar cane is cut, the machine is subjected to fluctuating loads, so its parts are selected and calculated to fatigue. With the purpose of dimension the cutting and ejection system for the chopped product, some experimental investigations were carried out to determine: the physical properties of the cane, the output speed of the product, the geometry of the blade and its location. The mincing machine was designed with a 15 hp single-phase or three-phase motor that transmits the movement by a belt transmission system, its cutting system consists of a flywheel-type mincing rotor - blower with 3 blades and 6 uniformly distributed blades whose production capacity is 1.1ton/h.
