In Ecuador, given the multiple cultures that coexist in its interior, a musical richness is noted, marked by diversity in origin, development of systems, instruments and community life, resulting in a varied and extensive music, which is manifested in each one of the regions, developing different and numerous musical cultures, where diverse musical genres are registered that constitute the most valuable musical heritage. Heritage that has been produced throughout history and managing to preserve it, is what distinguishes it, identifies it, feeds its cultural identity and better defines its specific contribution to humanity. In the present investigative work, it was proposed to adapt a repertoire of traditional and popular Ecuadorian music for students of the upper basic level of the "Salvador Bustamante Celi" College of Arts, who study the saxophone instrument. For the scope of this project, the general objective was to know the contribution of Ecuadorian traditional and popular music for saxophone in the interpretive development of the students of the upper basic level of the "Salvador Bustamante Celi" College of Arts, for which it was inquired in primary sources, by having direct contact with the teachers and students of the saxophone instrument, managing to link aspects related to the study program, methodology, determining the importance of traditional and popular Ecuadorian music in the musical feeling and in the values and identity of the Ecuadorians. This approach to reality allowed obtaining relevant information for the processing of information, through the scientific, analytical and synthetic method, data that contributed to obtaining information that favored theoretical discernment and the correct understanding of the sources investigated to provide validity. to the development of the research. In the research source of this work, data collection instruments were used, such as the interview, which was applied to 3 authorities of the "Salvador Bustamante Celi" College of Arts, rector, vice-rector and saxophone teacher, and the applied survey to the 4 teachers and 36 students of the saxophone instrument of the aforementioned institution, which allowed verifying how the interpretive development of the students is carried out and identifying in them the level of knowledge regarding Ecuadorian traditional and popular music. The results obtained allowed us to determine and conclude that, despite the work carried out by the educational community, the institution does not have bibliographic material on traditional and popular Ecuadorian music works for saxophone, so the learning process of the students is affected, affecting in their interpretive development. The production of an album adapted to the tonality of the saxophone and easy to interpret, with a repertoire of twelve adaptations of traditional and popular Ecuadorian music that includes the piano accompaniment and the respective encryption, will be of great use in managing the repertoire according to the instrument, contributing to musical didactics, strengthening the teaching-learning process. It is suggested that the authorities and teachers of the "Salvador Bustamante Celi" College of Arts appreciate and consider Ecuadorian music as an essential, methodological and didactic resource for the technical - interpretative development of the students; and, make use of the Ecuadorian traditional and popular music repertoire contemplated in this research work, aimed at teaching this musical genre for instrumentalists, and thus strengthen values and cultural identity.
