Sumario:Alcohol consumption is a public health problem, which causes an imbalance in the personal, social and family development. It can be triggered by or trigger familiar functionality which refers to the fulfillment of the basic functions within the family determining the family adjustment to the social environment and subjective well-being of its members. The overall objective of this study was to establish the relationship between alcohol consumption and family functioning in young adults aged between 20 and 39 years old from San Jacinto neighborhood of the city of Loja, in the period from January to July 2016 using a cross-sectional descriptive study. The study population consisted of 50 young adults. A genogram, Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) and Family Functioning Questionnaire FF-SIL were used to collect information. Tabulation and data analysis was done using Microsoft Excel 2010 program, obtaining the following as main results: out of 100% of young adults who participated in the study, 64% consume alcohol; 48% belong to moderately functional families, of which 34% consumed alcohol and that 28% are dysfunctional families of which 18% consume alcohol. The results determined that there was a relationship between alcohol moderately functional families and dysfunctional families. Keywords: Alcohol, Family Function, Social Media, AUDIT, FF-SIL
