Descripció
Sumari:Inequality has become a global problem that contains countless difficulties that affect the development of a nation. One of the main ways to reduce it is through the income that countries have through taxes (Piketty, 2014). Based on this context, the objective of this research is to assess the causal relationship between tax burden and inequality globally and by group of countries in the period 1980-2015. The proposed methodology corresponds to the econometric panel data techniques. We make use of the World Bank (2018) and Barro Lee (2016) databases. The results show that there is a growing trend of inequality globally and in all groups of countries, the existence of an equilibrium relationship in the short and long term was determined, as well as a causal relationship between the tax burden and inequality. . Finally, we establish policy implications focused on an equitable distribution of income, as well as investment in strategic sectors that provide new and better development opportunities.
