description The urinary tract infection (UTI) consists in the colonization and microbial multiplication, habitually bacterial, along the way of the urinary tract and it is one of the most common infectious diseases worldwide. In men, UTI has two peaks of incidence: during their first years of life and, in who are older than 50 years, in relation to the presence of prostatic pathology or urological manipulations. Escherichia coli is the main causative agent of these types of infection, followed by other bacterial genera, such as Klebsiella spp, Proteus spp and Staphylococcus spp. The present descriptive and cross-sectional study was developed along the period of December 21st, 2017 to April 30th, 2018, and its objective was to identify the bacterial agents that cause urinary tract infection in men, and to indicate its distribution according to the age and the Hospital health service area. Eleven bacterial species were isolated in forty five positive cultures, causing urinary tract infections in men, being Escherichia coli the most frequently infection, with a higher prevalence of UTI in the age group of older adults (over 60 years old) and from the Isidro Ayora Hospital outpatient area. KEY WORDS: Urinary tract infection, enterobacteria, men, urine culture.

KEY WORDS: Urinary tract infection, enterobacteria, men, urine culture.
