This study was of a descriptive and cut type. transversal, with a universe of 14 nursing professionals working in the unit, and 72 patients. the instruments used for the data collection were the survey and observation, the results obtained were processed in the SPSS program, reaching the conclusion that the majority of surveyed users were male whose age ranged from 51 to 60 years, prevailing of married patients, with full secondary education, workers and general insurance. Regarding the level of compliance with biosafety regulations by nursing personnel, 72.2% do not comply with them, which constitutes a risk factor for staff and users. On the other hand, 93.1% of patients report that the effectiveness of care is low Keywords: Biosecurity rules, Restoration, Self-care.Los cuidados de enfermería en pacientes con insuficiencia renal crónica son actividades que requieren de un valor personal y profesional encaminado a la conservación, restablecimiento y autocuidado de la vida que se fundamenta en la relación terapéutica enfermera - paciente; el presente trabajo de investigación tuvo como propósito determinar la eficacia del cuidado de enfermería en los pacientes con insuficiencia renal crónica atendidos en la Unidad de Diálisis del IESS-Hospital General Machala periodo octubre 2018- abril 2019. Este estudio fue de tipo descriptivo y de corte transversal, con un universo de 14 profesionales de enfermería que labora en la unidad, y 72 pacientes. los instrumentos utilizados para la recolección de datos fueron la encuesta y la observación, los resultados obtenidos se procesaron en el programa SPSS, llegando a la conclusión que la mayoría de usuarios encuestados fueron de sexo masculino cuya edad oscilan entre 51 a 60 años, existiendo predominando de pacientes casados, con instrucción secundaria completa, trabajadores y con seguro general.
