Sumari:This article addressed the issue of the environmental education in the Bilingual Intercultural Education in higher basic education in the Otavalo canton. The objective of this study was to analyze the contributions of environmental education for the strengthening of interculturality in higher basic education. The research – Action methodology was applied in the educational field, with the participation of five teachers from the Natural Science area with whom five environmental education projects were development for the students of the Tenth Year of Basic education. The research was developed according to the four phases that the Acton – research methodology presents: a) diagnosis; b) planning; c) observation and; d) reflection; using the focus group and the evaluation rubric as techniques for the assessment of each project. The results shows that the application of environmental education projects sets new guidelines for the integration of other fields of educational development, through which the relationship between culture, nature and education is deepened. The conclusions present environmental educations as an educational option aligned with the intercultural education model and a useful tool to recover intercultural links in higher basic education, where these tend to weaken. Finally, this study, of a qualitative nature and with an exploratory scope, invites to deepen through similar experiences in other educational contexts, overcoming intercultural and environmental problems, focusing on a more flexible and participatory curriculum.
