Summary:This article focuses on the conception of innovative strategies aimed at strengthening reading skills through meaningful learning by actively involving high school students. Currently, the educational dynamics in Ecuador have undergone a significant transformation due to the SARV-COVID19 pandemic, revealing deficiencies in students' reading skills within the virtual learning context they were placed in. The research employs a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive methodology to interpret the results through direct observation of activities carried out by students. Deficiencies in the limited development of basic reading skills in the high school group are identified and analyzed, necessitating the design and implementation of innovative strategies through teaching practices to address these shortcomings. Education today demands efficient changes in knowledge acquisition, involving the continuous process of innovation in pedagogical practices. In this regard, the designed innovative strategies highlight significant results, especially in the variable of educational innovation, showcasing the development of reading skills such as text comprehension, critical analysis, vocabulary, information synthesis, active reading skills, argument analysis, reflection, and selfcritique, as well as the use of auxiliary resources. The conclusion points to the existence of motivated students to read, who experience personal satisfaction in overcoming challenges and gaining valuable insights through a positive connection with books.
