Subsequently, the study examines the process of constructing the modern biomedical model, then reveals the strategies by which this model influences the construction of references, beliefs and political values in our society. Establishing a balanced distance with those deterministic conceptions that subordinate ideological factors to the workings of the material sphere of economy and production, elevates the role of the scientific discourse as a decisive element in the structuring of power relations. From this perspective, the medical discourse has achieved autonomous epistemic status. This evolution has allowed it to go from being an instrument of power, to being a factor of power |

Aborda la problemática empezando por un análisis sobre los mecanismos y las formas en que la medicina ha repercutido en el ejercicio del poder político a los largo de la Historia. A partir de estos antecedentes, examina el proceso de construcción del modelo biomédico durante la modernidad, para luego develar las estrategias mediante las cuales este modelo influye en la construcción de referentes, creencias y valores políticos en nuestra sociedad. Estableciendo una distancia equilibrada con aquellas concepciones deterministas que subordinan los factores ideológicos al funcionamiento de la esfera material de la economía y de la producción, realza el papel que cumple el discurso científico como elemento decisivo en la estructuración de las relaciones de poder.
