| description | The present investigation: Evaluation of the intelligence in older adults, neighborhood San Vicente parish of Yaruquí, carried out during the period of April to July of the 2016, by means of the application of the Scale Wechsler of intelligence for adults WAIS-IV, with a sample Of 15 elderly adults; Which is part of one of the projects carried out since the Psychology degree at the Salesian Polytechnic University. The objective of the study was to know the state of intelligence present in the elderly and the characteristics of it, making a comparison between fluid intelligence and crystallized intelligence. The group of older adults with whom it has worked, is made up of people who have developed their life in the field, where primary education is complete and incomplete and, while a minimum percentage of people have higher education. Many of them have developed activities in the rural area, with their own businesses and agricultural and trade activities in the field. The results show a predominance of crystallized intelligence over fluid intelligence, which coincides with the results obtained from other similar studies in the adult population. It is highlighted that, although the average performances of the group are slightly below the average, their performance is normal. |

It is highlighted that, although the average performances of the group are slightly below the average, their performance is normal.La presente investigación: Evaluación de la inteligencia en adultos mayores, barrio San Vicente parroquia de Yaruquí, llevada a cabo durante el período de abril a julio del 2016, mediante la aplicación de la Escala Wechsler de inteligencia para adultos WAIS-IV, con una muestra de 15 personas adultas mayores; misma que forma parte de uno de los proyectos que se realiza desde la carrera de Psicología de la Universidad Politécnica Salesiana. El objetivo de la misma fue conocer el estado de inteligencia presente en los adultos mayores y las características de la misma, haciendo una comparación entre la inteligencia fluida e inteligencia cristalizada. El grupo de adultos mayores con quienes se ha trabajado, está conformado por personas que han desarrollado su vida en el campo, en donde predomina la instrucción primaria completa e incompleta y, al tiempo que un mínimo porcentaje de personas tiene instrucción superior. Muchos de ellos han desarrollado actividades en el área rural, con negocios propios y actividades agrícolas y de comercio en el campo. Los resultados muestran un predominio de la inteligencia cristalizada sobre la inteligencia fluida, lo cual coincide con los resultados obtenidos a raíz de otros estudios similares en población adulta mayor.
