Summary:The present study evaluated the ecological footprint value on the educational and recreational service offered by the "Los Chíparos" agro-eco-touristic Farm, owned by the "Eugenio Espejo" Municipal high School to students and general consumers; the main aim is to promote sustainable consumption of natural resources, reducing all waste generated and mitigating the environment deterioration. In order to analyze the ecological footprint, the proposed method by Rees and Wackernagel was used to analyze the ecological footprint by components; for this study, the following facts were taken into account: energy, water, solid waste, food and fuels. The result of "Los Chíparos” ecological footprint Agro-eco-touristic Farm was 32,71 ha / year and per person of 0,82 ha / year, in the same way it was determined that the component that contribute in greater percentage to the total value of ecological footprint was the use of soil, since the is mostly made up of agricultural areas and humid tropical forest; in this component, also the foods produced inside the farm are consumed in the different meals that are offered daily to the students. As a corollary, this work pretends be used as an awareness and communication tool, That is why, a guide to enhance better environmental practices was provided. At the same time, be the first contribution for future researching and analysis around the implementation of these practices in order to reduce the ecological footprint value.
