In order to analyze the ecological footprint, the proposed method by Rees and Wackernagel was used to analyze the ecological footprint by components; for this study, the following facts were taken into account: energy, water, solid waste, food and fuels. The result of "Los Chíparos” ecological footprint Agro-eco-touristic Farm was 32,71 ha / year and per person of 0,82 ha / year, in the same way it was determined that the component that contribute in greater percentage to the total value of ecological footprint was the use of soil, since the is mostly made up of agricultural areas and humid tropical forest; in this component, also the foods produced inside the farm are consumed in the different meals that are offered daily to the students. As a corollary, this work pretends be used as an awareness and communication tool, That is why, a guide to enhance better environmental practices was provided. At the same time, be the first contribution for future researching and analysis around the implementation of these practices in order to reduce the ecological footprint value. |

At the same time, be the first contribution for future researching and analysis around the implementation of these practices in order to reduce the ecological footprint value.El presente estudio evaluó el valor de la huella ecológica sobre el servicio educativo y recreativo que brinda la Finca Agroecoturistica “Los Chíparos”, propiedad de la Unidad Educativa Municipal “Eugenio Espejo” a estudiantes y público en general; con la finalidad de propender al consumo sostenible de los recursos naturales, la reducción de los residuos generados y mitigar el deterioro del medio ambiente. Para el cálculo de la huella ecológica se utilizó el método propuesto por Rees y Wackernagel quienes analizan la huella ecológica por componentes. En este estudio se tomaron en cuenta los siguientes: energía, agua, residuos sólidos, alimentos, uso de suelo y combustibles. El resultado de la huella ecológica de la Finca Agroecoturística “Los Chíparos” fue de 32,71 ha/año y por persona de 0,82 ha/año, de igual manera se determinó que el componente que aporta en mayor porcentaje al valor total de la huella ecológica fue el uso de suelo, ya que la finca está conformada en su mayoría por zonas agrícolas y bosque tropical húmedo; en este componente también se contemplaron los alimentos producidos dentro de la finca ya que son consumidos en las diferentes comidas que se les ofrece diariamente a los estudiantes. Se pretende que este trabajo sirva como herramienta de concienciación y comunicación, para lo cual se entregó una guía de buenas prácticas ambientales.
