Summary: | This study evaluated the biodegradation capacity of oil and grease in the wastewater treatment from the Tunshi Experimental Station stable, using three treatments (1x106, 1x107, 1x108 CFU/mL) and a control treatment of biocubes, The evaluation was carried out for a period of 45 days and monitored physicochemical parameters of the wastewater such as pH, temperature, conductivity, alkalinity, total dissolved solids, odor threshold number and presence of floating matter, as well as microbiological analysis of coliforms, before and after inoculation of the biocubes. In addition, a periodic analysis was performed at 0, 7, 15, 15, 30 and 45 days after the incorporation of the biological cubes in the bioreactors, of the amount of oil and grease present in the wastewater. The experiment determined that the application of the biological cubes is effective for the reduction of oils and fats present in the wastewater, reducing this contaminant below the maximum permissible limits (less than 50mg/L) of the Ecuadorian environmental legislation, being T3 (1x108 CFU/mL) the treatment with the highest biodegrading capacity (20,45 ± 2,51 mg/L oil and grease) and finally determining that this capacity is closely related to the concentration of microorganisms that were inoculated by the microbial biological cubes; this phenomenon behaved similarly for the physicochemical parameters evaluated, being reduced in a directly proportional way to the concentration of biological matter inoculated in the bioreactors. |
