Riassunto:n this research article compares the resistance to compression and bending of a conventional concrete used for the construction of roads (rigid pavement), with a concrete that contains slag of iron smelting in partial replacement of the aggregate thickness (gravel) in percentages of 5%, 10%, 15%. With this objective, concrete mixtures and their respective cylindrical specimens and standard beams were elaborated to perform the corresponding compression and bending tests. It was concluded that the concrete with 15% slag obtained the best results, with 39,02 MPa in the compression test and 5,35 MPa in the flexure test, without neglecting that with the percentages of 5% and 10%. % of slag also obtained good results with respect to concrete without slag, it should also be known that the physical characteristics of slag concrete decreased (slump). Obtaining thus a concrete of better mechanical characteristics than a normal concrete used for rigid pavement and containing in its composition a material that can be recycled (iron foundry slag), the same that is produced in large quantities annually in Ecuador by the metallurgical industry.
