La ortodoncia preventiva es una disciplina que forma parte de esta ciencia, ayudando en el crecimiento y desarrollo dental positivamente; mediante la aplicación de ciertos métodos y aparatologías fijas o removibles que además de prevenir corrigen alteraciones ya existentes en niños a una edad tempana. El interés del padre familia por el bienestar de la salud bucal de su niño desde muy pequeño sin duda ayuda a detectar ciertos problemas dentales o esqueléticos que se pudieran desarrollar durante esta etapa; no obstante se dan casos de desconocimiento por ciertos padres que buscan una solución a los problemas dentales solo cuando estos son muy evidentes.
