Sumari:Education is an important process in which children spend a large part of their time in educational spaces. For this reason, these spaces must have an architectural design that allows a correct performance of learning activities. The Luis A. Martínez Educational Unit located in the center of the Ambato canton presents a functional obsolescence because its first block was built in the fifties, and at that time the building served as an elementary school. After several expansions and remodeling, certain spaces became obsolete and are not in accordance with the current needs of the children. At the time of identifying the problems and needs of the educational unit, a qualitative approach was applied using techniques and tools such as interviews, observation sheets, and the student participation workshop. The results of these techniques and tools allow us to approach the design strategies of the project. The purpose of the following project is to redesign the first block built, located on Cevallos Avenue and Quito Street. The main beneficiaries are children from three to seven years old. For the design it is important to highlight the architectural style of the Modern Movement present in the building. This is achieved through a contemporary formality in the new intervention that contrasts with the existing construction. Regarding the design of the new spaces, the contributions of the Escuela Nueva are considered for more effective learning.
