| Samenvatting: | The research focuses on analyzing the influence of CAD software (Computer-Aided Design) on contemporary industrial design. Its objective is to examine the digital footprint of CAD programs and how advanced 3D modeling tools affect the product development process in industrial design. This project seeks to understand how CAD software tools have transformed the processes of designing, manufacturing, and consuming products, promoting innovation and efficiency. Beneficiaries include industrial design students, academics, and professionals. The research analyzes the use of CAD technologies, their academic and industrial applications, enabling a better understanding of their advancements, improving business competitiveness, and fostering academia–industry integration. Through bibliographic research, the study identified new features of CAD software as well as emerging practices in industrial design. Data obtained from expert interviews, student surveys, and case study analyses of CAD applications for product development reveal an uneven evolution due to the complexity of contemporary industrial design, which positions it as a diversified discipline. Thus, based on the data gathered during the investigative phase, the term "spectrum of use" was established. This concept serves to define the evolutionary level of CAD within contemporary industrial design processes, reflecting the transformation influenced by factors shaped by emerging practices, approaches, and methods in industrial design, as well as the skills and capabilities of the contemporary designer |
