| Crynodeb: | This study analyzes land use changes and residential mobility patterns in the La Matriz and Ignacio Flores parishes of Latacunga between 2015 and 2024, focusing on the effects of the 2015 eruption of the Cotopaxi volcano. This qualitative and exploratory-descriptive research examines how volcanic events influenced territorial reconfiguration and impacted the quality of residential environments and the mobility of inhabitants. The results reveal that the Cotopaxi eruption significantly transformed land use, characterized by the disorganized urbanization of previously agricultural areas and the abandonment of high-risk zones. This phenomenon exacerbated socio-spatial inequalities, as evidenced by residential segregation and increased pressure on infrastructure and basic services in receiving areas like Ignacio Flores. Perception of volcanic risk and economic limitations emerged as key factors influencing residential mobility decisions. Moreover, social networks proved essential in rural areas to facilitate community adaptation, while in urban contexts, social fragmentation hindered community cohesion. These findings underscore the importance of integrating territorial planning strategies that combine risk management, socio-economic equity, and sustainable development. Finally, it is proposed to strengthen infrastructure, improve access to basic services, and foster citizen participation to ensure effective community resilience and a better quality of life for Latacunga's residents |
