| description | The present work examines the problem of generalized deterioration and underutilization that a large number of buildings in the city center of Ambato present, a situation that entails a series of inconveniences that affect the urban dynamics, such as the growth of informality, the housing deficit and the existence of numerous spaces that are not adapted to the contemporary habitability needs of this specific spatial and temporal context. Likewise, it raises the parallel situation that the construction industry continues to have a very high demand for natural and energy resources in order to develop its activity, with the consequent generation of a large ecological footprint derived from the high environmental impact that this means. Faced with this complex panorama, the present research work proposes and thoroughly analyzes the adaptive reuse of those buildings that are currently in a situation of disuse or deterioration. The detailed methodological design that this research follows to meet its objectives is mentioned, noting that it is a qualitative and exploratory-descriptive research. Various analysis tools have been developed and applied, such as mappings, observation sheets, case studies and interviews with experts in the field. Finally, the last chapter contemplates the analysis carried out on the information obtained from the application of the previously defined methodological tools. The end product of this research is a guide with adaptive reuse strategies for the context of Ambato. |

The end product of this research is a guide with adaptive reuse strategies for the context of Ambato.El presente trabajo examina la problemática del deterioro y subutilización generalizada que presenta un gran número de edificaciones en el centro de la ciudad de Ambato, situación que trae aparejada una serie de inconvenientes que afectan la dinámica urbana, como son el crecimiento de la informalidad, el déficit de vivienda y la existencia de numerosos espacios que no se encuentran adaptados a las necesidades contemporáneas de habitabilidad de este contexto espacial y temporal específico. Asimismo, se plantea la situación paralela de que la industria de la construcción continúa teniendo una muy elevada demanda de recursos naturales y energéticos para poder desarrollar su actividad, con la consecuente generación de una gran huella ecológica derivada del alto impacto ambiental que esto significa. Frente a este complejo panorama, el presente trabajo de investigación propone y analiza en profundidad al reúso adaptativo de aquellas edificaciones que se encuentran actualmente en situación de desuso o deterioro. El diseño metodológico detallado que sigue esta investigación para cumplir con sus objetivos, siendo necesario mencionar que se trata de una investigación con un enfoque cualitativo y de tipo exploratorio-descriptivo. Se han desarrollado y aplicado diversos instrumentos de análisis tales como mapeos, fichas de observación, estudios de casos y entrevistas realizadas a expertos en la materia. Finalmente, en el último capítulo se contempla el análisis realizado sobre la información obtenida a partir de la aplicación de las herramientas metodológicas previamente definidas.
