Summary:In the peripheral neighborhoods of Ecuadorian cities, community centers and rec reational spaces play a crucial role in strengthening social ties and promoting an active lifestyle. However, sometimes they present problems that have led to peripheral neigh borhoods being left unaware of the maintenance and improvement of public facilities and spaces. In the Miraflores Alto neighborhood of Ambato, Ecuador, the lack of adequate community and recreational spaces is recognized. The existing infrastructure shows signs of deterioration due to the passage of time, lack of maintenance and dis-func tionality of spaces. Despite these conditions, these spaces remain essential to the com munity, used as meeting points for a variety of activities that strengthen community ties. It is for this reason that an urban-architectural intervention is proposed to transform the existing communal house into a community and recreational center. To achieve this purpose, a qualitative methodology is used through techniques and tools such as interviews with neighborhood residents, theoretical analyzes and urban-architectural strategies of the references, of the specific area of the study and especially urban, This is to establish coherent guidelines that generate optimal relationships between the in tervention space and its environment. In particular, the design of the new community and recreation center focuses on developing flexible, functional and social environments that meet the needs of neigh borhood residents. The objective is to create safe and accessible spaces for everyone and create a connection with the environment, promoting the adaptability of spaces to different uses. It is expected that this intervention will not only improve the quality of life of the community, but also encourage active participation and the general well being of the community, becoming an important meeting point for social cohesion, collective participation and recreation
