Revalorización de las técnicas artesanales con base en la tecnología. Caso de estudio: metalurgi

The current project explores the fusion between the tradition of artisanal methods and technology in the specific realm of metallurgy. It underlines the significance of preserving and revitalizing artisanal techniques in an increasingly industrialized world. Through collaboration between industrial designers and local artisans, the project aims to establish an approach that facilitates the harmonious integration of disciplines. This active collaboration not only fosters the exchange of knowledge and skills but also advocates for the appreciation of artisanal practices in a contemporary context. The research was conducted in Guaranda, Bolívar, Ecuador, where the city faces the threat of extinction of metalworking artisans due to various factors, including lack of recognition and financial support. To conduct this research comprehensively, the history of metallurgy was taken into account, from the most general to the most specific, highlighting pivotal moments such as the intervention of industrial designers during the first industrial revolution to address a design crisis in industrialized products. The significance of technology in the evolution of humanity was analyzed, followed by an evaluation of the industrial designer's potential as a mediator between disciplines, leading to the emergence of neo-artisans who amalgamate essential characteristics and confer the requisite value to uphold this tradition. Finally, based on the gathered information and insights gleaned, a comprehensive theoretical model was devised to synthesize the intricate interplay between the industrial designer and artisanal processes, thus facilitating the potential replication of this model in various urban settings worldwide.
