Gaia:The central purpose of this study is the analysis of the clothing artifact of the andean chagra of Machachi, a cultural character of great relevance to the identity of the communities of the Andean region of Ecuador. Through this research, we seek to contribute to collective memory by documenting, analyzing and rescuing aspects that make this cultural expression unique. The research is based on three specific objectives. First, a bibliographic review is developed that allows us to theoretically characterize the historical and cultural importance of the chagra and its clothing. Second, through the application of qualitative methodologies, such as focus groups, interviews and observation sheets, the utilitarian, communicative and technical-productive dimensions of this clothing artifact are diagnosed, this allows us to interpret the symbolism and functionality that the clothing represents both in the social context as well as in the physical environment of the chagra. Finally, a documentary record is proposed that consolidates the most significant characteristics of this clothing, ensuring its preservation and dissemination as part of the local cultural heritage. This work not only seeks to contribute to academic knowledge, but also to strengthen the recognition of the andean chagra of Machachi as a living symbol of cultural resistance and connection with the Andean paramos, thus contributing to the strengthening of the cultural identity of the region
