Resumo:This thesis focuses on developing seed germinators for Hass avocado and solving the problem that arises when farmers use improvised techniques to produce this crop. In agriculture, numerous tools are used to grow Hass avocado seeds, but these tools are not only inefficient in terms of production, but they are also harmful to the environment. The goal is to develop a seed germinator that improves the quality and efficiency of the Hass avocado seed production process. The design thinking approach and a mixed approach methodology were used. The process included phases of empathy, definition, ideation, prototyping and testing. Interviews, surveys, and observation sheets were conducted with farmers to determine the tools and methods currently used. The study found that much improvised tools do not provide the conditions for efficient and sustainable germination. Based on these results, a germinator prototype was developed that incorporates resistant materials and specific technical characteristics to improve the germination rate and the health of the seedlings. Compared to traditional methods, preliminary testing of the prototype demonstrated a significant improvement in germination rate and a reduction in environmental impact. For farmers involved in Hass avocado production, this germinator design offers a practical and efficient solution, as well as promoting more sustainable agricultural practices.
