| Summary: | This research addresses the architectural design of social housing from a gender perspective, using the "Pishilata" program in Ambato, Ecuador, as a case study. This study arises from the need to reassess traditional design, which often overlooks the different dynamics and gender-specific needs within households, perpetuating inequalities and limitations in the use of space. Through a comprehensive analysis of the socioeconomic, cultural, and spatial context, deficiencies in current housing were identified, such as rigid layouts, a lack of multifunctional spaces, and limited consideration for activities predominantly carried out by women. The research included field studies, surveys, and interviews with program beneficiaries to gather information on perceptions and demands related to housing. The proposal presents an analysis of spatial design criteria from a gender perspective, including diagrams and schematics comparing the existing housing with an improved version applying these criteria. It prioritizes space flexibility, the integration of common areas, proper ventilation and lighting, and the separation of social and private zones. This approach not only enhances the quality of life for residents but also promotes a shift toward more inclusive and gender-sensitive architecture, contributing to the social and urban development of Ambato. |
