El tratamiento con medicamentos antirretrovirales (TAR) puede controlar el VIH de manera efectiva, permitiendo a las personas vivir una vida larga y saludable. El VIH puede ser transmitido al bebe durante el embarazo, el parto, o la lactancia si no se toman precauciones. El siguiente caso plantea es un embarazo de 38 semanas de gestación y exposición al virus de inmunodeficiencia humana, en que la paciente acudió por presentar cuadro clínico de 2 días caracterizado por dolor tipo contráctil que inicia a nivel de hipogastrio y se irradia a ambas regiones lumbrales de leve intensidad, en que la paciente refiere antecedentes PVVS diagnosticada hace 3 meses con tratamiento, el cual se realiza cesárea segmentaria ante la presencia del antecedente. Sin complicaciones se obtuvo nacido vivo de sexo femenino sin alteraciones congénitas, ni físicas se brindó tratamiento antirretroviral hasta confirmación de la infección.
