The Ecuadorian population consumes oregano either in preparation of meals as well as as an alternative medicine to calm pain because this plant has healing properties that allows it to perform this function. |

No existen estadísticas de producción e información científica de óregano, en el país. Entre las conclusiones se determinó que el orégano es un cultivo secundario, por lo que no existe tecnología generada en aspectos referentes a fertilización, abonaduras, riegos, distancias de siembra, manejo sanitario, etc; la importación de orégano podría disminuir, si se promociona el desarrollo del cultivo y se mejora su productividad; en nuestro país hay aproximadamente 500 especies de plantas medicinales, de las cuales 288 se registran como las más usadas y 125 son comercializadas ampliamente, entre ellas se encuentra el orégano y la comercialización del orégano se realiza en forma interna y externa.
