Sumari:The objective of this paper is to contribute in prevention, treatment and eradication of disease called roya, that attacks the sugar cane. This agricultural product is very important at level economic for Ecuador and too at nutritional regimen of this population. This paper explains the disease’ characteristic, and this pathogen, Puccinia melanocephala, and the metology of control. Ecuadorian producers must overcome the diseases that attack the cultivation of sugarcane, mainly of the coffee roya, some consider it to be a minor condition, which can cause large losses in terms of yield and therefore attack the leaf area of the plant. This disease is very little to be recognized, so in some varieties the infection presents with slight linear lesions, reddish-brown in color, without presenting pustules which usually confuse them as a nutritional deficiency. The control for this disease is to use varieties that are resistant or tolerant to brown roya (Puccinia melanocephala).
