| Resumo: | VIII. SUMMARY This research was carried out in order to identify and characterize Saboya grass (Panicum maximum Jacq.) Morphotypes in order to determine the morphological variability of the species. We explored and analyzed the morphological diversity in a sample size of 50 individuaLC located within the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the Babahoyo Technical University located in Babahoyo province of Los Ríos. To evaluate the variability of phenotypic characteristics of Saboya grass, characterizers used for other studies of the same nature were adapted. As results, it was possible to demonstrate the stability of the morphological characters, since most of the descriptors used did not exceed 50% of the coefficient of variation that indicates variability of the descriptors. There was a degree of intimate association or joint variation between the height of the foliage with plant height with a value of 0.820. For the qualitative variables, no type of variability was presented between the evaluated descriptors. Finally, it is recommended to replicate this work in the different sectors of the country in order to characterize in the best way this pasture of great importance in the agricultural sector, besides using other species to be able to estimate the best agronomic characteristics that could serve to make a selection and improvement of species. Keywords: Panicum maximum; morphological variation; characterizers. |
