Sumari: | This document compiled information regarding the characterization of the causal agent of avian Salmonellosis. Avian Salmonellosis is caused by Salmonella sp. included in the family Enterobacteriaceae. Most salmonellas affect and cause diseases in different animal species; Domestic birds constitute a reservoir for these bacteria due to the permanent population at risk that is maintained in poultry areas. The conclusions detail that Salmonellosis is a set of diseases caused by the bacterial genus Salmonella, belonging to the Enterobacteriaceae family, the main reservoir of these bacteria are poultry and Salmonella is an acapsular bacillus, facultative anaerobes, closely related morphologically and physiologically with the other genera of the family Enterobacteriaceae, 2-4 µm long by 0.6 µm wide, showing colonies between 2 and 3 mm in diameter, gray-white in color and viscous in texture, when isolated on plates of agar-blood for 24h at 37º C. They are mobile due to the presence of peritrichous flagella. |
