| الملخص: | Iron deficiency anemia is a common type of anemia that occurs when there are not enough healthy red blood cells in the blood. Red blood cells carry oxygen to the body's tissues, and iron deficiency anemia in infants is a significant public health condition due to its adverse effects on physical and cognitive development. This study analyzes the relationship between risk factors and the presence of iron deficiency anemia in infants treated at the Barreiro Health Center from October 2024 to May 2025. The methodology used is quantitative, exploratory, descriptive, cross-sectional, and field-based, ranging from inductive to deductive methods. In addition, a survey, observation, and documentary review were used as techniques, and a checklist applied to the infant and maternal medical records, along with a structured questionnaire addressed to the infants' mothers, were used as instruments. The prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in the infant population treated was 32%, with 38.30% of infants between 6 and 11 months of age. 68% were male. 85% of infants were from urban areas. Among socioeconomic factors, 78% of the population had a low iron level, 76% had a low iron diet, 65% were exclusively breastfed for less than 6 months, 45% had low birth weight, and 53% had recurrent infections. Hemoglobin (7 g/dL) and ferritin (11 ng/dL) levels were significantly low in infants with anemia, confirming the diagnosis of iron deficiency. |
