Los problemas que devienen de esta situación han determinado un cambio climático que se ha vuelto inmanejable para la humanidad y que provoca tanto pérdidas humanas como económicas. En la actualidad y para beneficio de la humanidad se realizan muchas investigaciones y proyectos que pretenden mitigar el cambio climático derivado de la producción pecuaria a partir de una serie de actividades que pretenden afrontar esta problemática desde una óptica multidisciplinaria y multifactorial que implica desde cambios radicales en los sistemas alimenticios de los rumiantes, hasta la manipulación genética de microorganismos ruminales.
